Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) 
  
PROGRAM GOAL:
 
The FLTA program is a nine-month non-degree program which provides early career teachers of English as a Foreign Language, or of related fields such as American Studies, or English/American Literature, the opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and broaden their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States. Applications from teachers in the fields of journalism and media studies will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. FLTAs from Egypt strengthen the instruction of Arabic at colleges and universities in the United States in various capacities, which may include teaching up to two Arabic classes at host institutions per semester, and typically facilitating cultural events, language clubs and language tables. FLTA fellows also enroll in at least two courses per semester, one of which must be in U.S. Studies.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are ineligible to apply. Applicants must reside in Egypt starting the application process until the travel date (in case of selection).
• Early career teachers or those training to become teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or English as a Second Language (ESL), or of American Studies, English/American literature, Linguistics, or Journalism and Media Studies, who have a maximum of 7 years work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Fluency in spoken and written English with a minimum Institutional TOEFL (Local ITP) score of 550 from AMIDEAST Egypt or any of the ETS approved centers listed below, Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) score of 79-80, or overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0.

Important: The FLTA Program seeks applicants that have developed a sense of personal integrity and are original thinkers. Copying someone else's writing, whether from the internet, from a book or friend is considered plagiarism. Any quoted words or sentences should include a citation. An applicant who is found to have plagiarized in his or her application will be disqualified and will be ineligible to reapply to the program in the future.

Fulbright Egyptian Student Program - Islamic Studies Guidelines
 
 

PROGRAM GOAL:
Provides opportunities for graduates of Islamic Studies from relevant faculties at Al Azhar University or the faculties of Dar Al Ulum to pursue master’s degrees, or Ph.D. degrees or to conduct research in Islamic Studies in the United States

GRANT TYPES:
• Master’s Degree Grants, for persons wishing to pursue a master’s degree in the U.S.
• One-year grants, for persons registered for the Ph.D. degree who wish to conduct research in the U.S.
• Ph.D. Grants for persons wishing to pursue Ph.D. studies in the U.S.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are ineligible.
• Islamic Studies graduate from Al Azhar University or the faculties of Dar Al Ulum.
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of “Good”.
• For non-degree applicants: proof of registered doctoral thesis.
• Language Requirements:
o For Master’s degrees or non-degree applicants: minimum Institutional TOEFL (ITP) score by an approved testing center of 450 or its equivalent iBT (45), or IELTS (4) from AMIDEAST Egypt (38 Mohy El Din Aboul Ezz Street, Dokki, or 15 Abdel Hamid El Abbady Street, Roushdy, Alexandria, General Tel: 19263) or any of the ETS approved centers listed below
o For Ph.D. degrees: minimum institutional TOEFL (ITP) score of 550 or its equivalent iBT (80), or IELTS (6.5) from AMIDEAST Egypt (38 Mohy El Din Aboul Ezz Street, Dokki, or 15 Abdel Hamid El Abbady Street, Roushdy, Alexandria, General Tel: 19263) or any of the ETS approved centers listed below

Fulbright Egyptian Student Program Guidelines
 
 

PROGRAM GOAL:
Provides grant opportunities for university graduates, master’s and doctoral degree candidates, and young professionals and artists to study and conduct research in the United States.

GRANT TYPES:
• Master’s Degree Grants: up to two years for persons wishing to pursue postgraduate degrees in the U.S. Applicants in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Agriculture and Economics are encouraged to apply. 
• Master’s and Ph.D. non-degree grants: six to nine months for persons registered for advanced degrees in Egyptian universities who wish to conduct research in the U.S.
• Fine, Applied and Performing Arts grants: six to nine months for artists who wish to conduct field research or attend master classes with professionals in the U.S.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are ineligible
• Applicants must reside in Egypt starting the application process till the travel date 
• Bachelor’s degree.  Minimum of “Good” for applicants in American studies, humanities, and social sciences.  Minimum of “Very Good” for applicants in the sciences
• Minimum of two years post-graduate experience at the time of application for applicants in American studies, humanities, and social sciences only
• For Non-Degree applicants:  proof of registered masters or doctoral thesis at an Egyptian university
• For Fine, Applied and Performing Arts applicants:  proof of participation in at least three post-graduate artistic activities or exhibitions; No TOEFL score required
• Minimum Institutional TOEFL score of 550 from AMIDEAST Egypt or any of the below ETS Authorized Distributors and/or ITP Testing Centers
