Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA)
 
 

 

PROGRAM GOAL:

 

The program strengthens foreign language instruction of Arabic in American institutions while providing Egyptian teachers of English as a second language (ESL), as well as teachers of American studies, literature, and journalism and media studies, with opportunities to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency, and expand their knowledge of American society.  FLTA fellows teach a maximum of two Arabic classes at host institutions.  They enroll in at least four courses (two per semester), one of which must be in U.S. studies.  They also facilitate cultural events, language clubs and language tables in their host institutions.

  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

    

·         Young teachers or teachers in training of English as a second language (ESL),

      or American studies, literature, and journalism and media studies.

·         Bachelor’s degree.

·         Fluency in spoken and written English with a minimum Institutional TOEFL (Local ITP) score of 550 from AMIDEAST Egypt or any of the ETS approved centers listed below, Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) score of 79-80, or overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0.

Important: The FLTA Program seeks applicants that have developed a sense of personal integrity and are original thinkers. Copying someone else's writing, whether on the internet, from a book or friend is considered plagiarism. Any quoted words or sentences should include a citation. Fulbright Egyptian Student Program - Islamic Studies
 
 

PROGRAM GOAL:

 

Provides opportunities for graduates of Islamic Studies from relevant faculties at Al Azhar University or the faculties of Dar Al Ulum at Cairo University to pursue master’s degrees, or Ph.D. degrees or to conduct research in Islamic Studies in the United States.

 

GRANT TYPES:

·       Master’s Degree Grants, for persons wishing to pursue a master’s degree in

      the U.S.

·       One-year grants, for persons registered for the Ph.D. degree who wish to 

      conduct research in the U.S.

·       Ph.D. Grants for persons wishing to pursue Ph.D. studies in the U.S.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

·       Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are

      ineligible

·       Islamic Studies graduate from relevant faculties at Al Azhar University or the 

      faculties of Dar Al Ulum

·       Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of “Good”

·       Minimum Institutional (local) TOEFL score of 450 for master’s degree from

      AMIDEAST  Egypt  (38 Mohy El Din Aboul Ezz Street, Dokki, or 15 Abdel

      Hamid El Abbady Street, Roushdy, Alexandria, General Tel: 19263)  or its

      equivalent iBT (45), or IELTS (4) and minimum institutional (local) TOEFL

      score of 550 for Ph.D. from AMIDEAST Egypt or  any of the ETS approved

      centers listed below; or its equivalent iBT (80), or IELTS (6.5)

Fulbright Egyptian Student Program
 
 

PROGRAM GOAL:

 

Provides grant opportunities for university graduates, master’s and doctoral degree candidates, and young professionals and artists to study and conduct research in the United States.

 

GRANT TYPES:

 

·       Master’s Degree Grants: up to two years for persons wishing to pursue postgraduate degrees in the U.S. Applicants in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Agriculture and Economics are encouraged to apply. 

·        Non-degree grants: six to nine months for persons registered for advanced degrees in Egyptian universities who wish to conduct research in the U.S.

·        Fine, Applied and Performing Arts grants: six to nine months for artists who wish to conduct field research or attend master classes with professionals in the U.S.

 

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

 

·        Egyptian citizenship; holders of U.S. green cards and/or passports are ineligible

·        Applicants must reside in Egypt starting the application process till the travel date (in case of selection)

·        Bachelor’s degree.  Minimum of “Good” for applicants in American studies, humanities, and social sciences. Minimum of “Very Good” for applicants in the sciences

·        Minimum of two years post-graduate experience at the time of application for applicants in American studies, humanities, and social sciences only

·        For Non-Degree applicants:  proof of registered masters or doctoral thesis at an Egyptian university

·        For Fine, Applied and Performing Arts applicants:  proof of participation in at least three post-graduate artistic activities or exhibitions; No TOEFL score required

·        Minimum Institutional TOEFL score of 550 from AMIDEAST Egypt or any of the

     below ETS Authorized Distributors and/or ITP Testing Centers
